That Rebecca Solnit sure sounds like a well-informed, reasonable woman who does immaculate background research on her subject matter..cough, cough..and reliable sources say she actually likes being white, too..cough, cough, more salt please...

Just for the record, "hearsay" is an adjective that modifies the noun, "evidence." In other words, it's a category of evidence, one that's sometimes inadmissible in a court of law, but it's still a type of evidence, not something that's other than "evidence."
