Agents are becoming epublishers, etailers are becoming publishers, cats are chasing dogs and the world is turning upside down.
And now some publishers (Simon and Schuster, Penguin Group and Hachette Books) are in cahoots with AOL to create a book etailer called Bookish--presumably to take on the Amazon Goliath.
Well, I guess one solution to some groups exposing themselves to a conflict of interest is every-damn-body else doing the same. Evens the playing field, right?
p.s. In other industries (e.g. agriculture) vertical integration generally leads to producers getting paid less--but they would be a source of competition for Amazon... so, well, I don't know....
