Amazon is removing sales ranks from material it deems "adult". Can you guess what counts as adult?

Well it seems that, as usual, gay romance is adult (but not equally saucy heterosexual romance).

Edited to add: although it seems the net is being cast ever wider, to cover all kinds of content including mf material.

A wide swathe of fiction and non-fiction is dropping fron the Amazon "ranks", literally.

Follow at twitter: amazonfail. Facebook group here.

A list of deranked books is being kept here.

The petition.

Link list here.

Google bombing scheme here.

AbsoluteWrite thread here.

As discussed at the Amazon forums here: Amazon-GBLT And here: Amazon-romance. I would like to suggest tagging deranked books with "amazonfail" to help people find them.

The cries for boycott return, but this has never been effective in the past so I am not optimistic this this time 'round will be different.

Edited to add: It looks like Amazon may do a "blame the intern" (a.k.a. a "glitch") on this....

A truly deplorable effort of censorship from Amazon. After reading several of the affected sites and authors pages, I'm so glad I don't have any widgets, links or advertise for their site.

I did check. The Tease antho is still ranked, but for how long? It's startling. I knew it had been hovering around the 6m mark, to be suddenly in the 1.5 range. It boggles the mind that they would silence arbitrarily even a fraction of that difference.

Try a Little Tenderness is no longer ranked and hasn't been for a while now, and it's distinctly hetero. I wonder if it's because it's multi-cultural? For the life of me I can't figure out what's the freaking point.

This grows very...tiresome. Some of us just want to run a legitimate business and get on with it. Apparently that's not permitted.

my erotic romance books (het) are still ranked.

That's not completely true. Many het erotic and erotic romance titles have been stripped and shunted to the backroom via search options as well. Lots of major NY pubs like Berkley and HQ have been hit.

I'm hoping the fact that it's *not* just small GLBT presses being hit will make a difference. The big boys won't like their bottom line being messed with and actually have the power to do something about it.
